Evian has a population of 7,528 known as "Evianais." But because of its prominence as a tourist centre, it is classified among cities with a population of between 20 and 40 000.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Mayor of Evian is Marc Francina (elected in 1995). He is also Deputy of the Haute-Savoie  Department at the French Parliament, and a member of numerous other institutions.

VOLUNTARY ASSOCIATIONS

Evian has a vibrant civic life, with nearly 60 voluntary associations involved in cultural, sports and leisure activities.

AMENITIES

As well as being an important tourist resort, Evian is a bustling commercial town all year-round. It is comprehensively equipped with shops (*3), services, as well as cultural and leisure facilities, including a casino, cinemas, discotheques, art galleries and so forth. In addition, the resort provides a wide array of sporting activities.

TWIN CITIES

Illustrating its European convictions, Evian has been twinned with Neckargemünd (*1) in Germany for nearly 30 years, and with Benicasim (*2) in Spain for more than ten years now.

HANDICRAFTS AND THE APPLIED ARTS

The City of Evian instituted a programme to promote the applied arts in 1997, in recognition of which it was awarded the official "Ville et Métiers d'Art" (City and the Applied Arts) label in 1998, joining 36 other French towns and cities.
